Buzz into Fun at the Marin/Sonoma Mosquito and Vector Control District Open House!

Cotati, CA – The Marin/Sonoma Mosquito and Vector Control District (MSMVCD) cordially invites the community to a day of discovery and fun at their exciting Open House event. Taking place on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., this event promises an engaging exploration into the realm of mosquito and vector control, offering attendees valuable insights into reducing vectors around their homes while they enjoy an array of family-friendly activities.

This free event offers something for everyone, combining education with entertainment. Attendees can look forward to hands-on activities suitable for both kids and adults, along with complimentary lunch provided throughout the day.

Prepare for a delightful experience featuring carnival games, bug tasting, live vector displays, a jumpy house, and a special appearance by The Queen Bee Ettamarie, accompanied by her captivating honeybee observation hive. Attendees will also have a chance for up-close and personal encounters with some special critters courtesy of the students from the Petaluma Wildlife Museum.

Explore our collection of field equipment, including drones, airboats, and Argo amphibious ATV’s. Discover firsthand how these tools are utilized in the field to effectively control mosquito populations. Interact with our staff and learn more about mosquito and vector control in your community.

Certified Vector Control Technicians will be on hand to answer questions residents may have regarding mosquito and vector control in their specific communities. And if that's not enough excitement, MSMVCD will also be announcing the winners of the Backyard Bugs Contest. Open to students from TK through 6th grade, participants are encouraged to find, observe, draw, and write about bugs they encounter. This contest not only fosters observation and artistic skills but also cultivates a deeper appreciation for the insect world. Every participant will receive a pocket nature journal as a token of appreciation.
